NZCT Women’s Tour of New Zealand

The Tour has just wrapped up this afternoon in windy Wellington. It was my first time at a professional cycling race and I was loving it. There aren’t many sports where as a spectator you can get so close to the athletes. Head along to a rugby game and you’ve got barriers and security guards keeping you away from the action, head along to a cycle race and you can stand right on the edge of the road, no barriers in the way, and mingle with the riders as they finish the race.

So here we have the winners of the Tour:

From left to right: Tiffany Cromwell (U23 Champion), Ruth Corset (Queen of the Mountains), Shelley Evans (Yellow Jersey) and Kirsty Broun (Sprint Ace).

The final stage was a one hour plus 3 laps criterium around the streets of central Wellington, with a sprint every 10 minutes.
